Once again a merciless hurricane disrupted the lives of the people. Last Sunday, the State of Iowa was drastically hit by a pack of tornadoes and hail. Heavy rains accompanied by lighting and gusts of wind blowing at 70mph came rolling in the area. The killer thunderstorm rumbled across the middle region of the United States leaving a detrimental trace behind.
Numerous homes were damaged leaving many people homeless. Apart from that there are also a significant number of casualties. Approximately fifty people were injured and around nine deaths ensue.
Reports pointed out that seven of those who died came from Parkersburg which is located 80 miles on the northeastern part of Des Moines while the other two were victims coming from the nearby town of New Hartford .
Witnesses from places in Parkersburg stated that the south side of the town received the most damages wherein infrastructures were reduced to rubbles. Included in this list are the residents’ homes and the town’s public high school.
According to the Security Administrator of Iowa Homeland, Dave Miller, the homeland officials have been closely monitoring weather reports throughout Iowa . He further said that they in fact possess a warning system but this one instance has been too strong.
The result of the calamity is something that was not experienced for some time now. The seven deaths is a very high mark and the types of injuries that people contracted are way beyond the past records.
In the nearby town east of Des Moines named Dunkerton and in some places in the county of Black Hawk . The results of the tornado attack were dismal. There were also reports of destroyed or damaged homes.
Due to the devastating effects of the recent hurricane, Gov. Chet Culver of Iowa issued a disaster proclamation. Because of this move, coordination for help between the local and state authorities will be made easier. The towns covered by the state of calamity are Black Hawk, Butler counties, and Buchanan.
In fact the places in Iowa are not the sole recipient this unkind slap of fate. Even the state of Minnesota has its own share of this merciless tragedy. An account of more than twenty people and at least four dozens of homes were affected.
