feature photo

Just recently, the Philippines was struck by a typhoon named Frank who is also known by its international codename Fengshen. The typhoon left a number of unsightly damages to the Southeast Asian nation. As a matter of fact the calamity is an added burden to the people of the republic who have been suffering an economical crisis as of late.

Sea Accident

One of the many devastating results of the typhoon is the submersion of the MV Princess of the Stars, which is actually a passenger ship. From this alone a high number of casualties ensued. Many of the passengers as well as the ship’s crew wounded and some others died while some remains unaccounted for. Although the rescue operations are still on the process but it could be said that the damage incurred is much too great. Sulpicio Lines, the owner of the maiden voyage have given their word that they will take responsibility of this eventuality and that an amount of Php200,000 will be given to the family for every injured party. They have also taken the responsibility of paying for hospitalizations. Relatives of the victims are now lamenting for this unfortunate incident.

Double Effect

Another consequence of the said typhoon is the damages sustained in various provinces of the country. One of which is the town of Janiuay in Iloilo.  It is said that the province was greatly affected with fatalities reaching to 21 persons and some are still missing.

To make matters worse for the town people, the locality’s district hospital has been severely damaged. Government officials both from the local and national levels have given their word to help in rebuilding the health agency to make it functional at the soonest possible time. It is estimated that the hospital will be put out of business for a couple of years while it is being rehabilitated. This is an added dilemma since people who are in need of health care could not readily avail of health services. They will have to go to a nearby town.

Many other infrastructures need to be restored including bridges and highways that are plays a great role in communication, transportation, and trade.
